Year 3 - Day 222 - August 9
We just started getting hit by an insane cloud burst/thunderstorm at lunch time! It's hard to see through the waterdrops on the glass, but the gutters are pouring overflow. It hasn't rained this hard for a long time. There's some insane lightning going on out there too. I am just hoping we don't lose power, because day 4 of no car plus no Internet could be painful!!

Year 3 - Day 158 - June 6
We experienced the weirdest thing today. A torrential downpour sun shower. You can see the overflowing gutters here on the left, the bright sunshine, and the blue sky with white puffy clouds on the right. Holy cow. Even weirder, at Sarah's house 15 minutes away, there was not a drop of rain. I tried to get a picture of the double rainbow (DOUBLE RAINBOW!) but it didn't work with the phone.

Year 3 - Day 114 - April 23
It is STILL raining. After what felt like a year of rain every other day or so, it had tapered off lately. All the way to drought conditions. However, it feels like we've made up for it in the amount of rainfall in the last 36 hours!!

Year 2 - Day 285 - October 13
How can you tell it's rainy?
Look up at the sky.
But if that isn't an option, just check to see if there's a worm in my classroom. They come in droves - sneaking under the door along with the puddles. Today I had a few big books next to my rocking chair that we were using for activities. When I picked up the last one, there was a worm under it. The second graders were in awe. "Hey! That thing's real!" Luckily one of my darlings was willing to rescue the little guy and put him outside.
Where he belongs.

Year 2 - Day 249 - September 7
It has been raining FOREVER. I am beginning to think it will never stop. This section of our gutter pours over all the time. Before the hurricane, we got the extension ladder out and Mike climbed up there to clean it out. Surprisingly, there was nothing up there. I'm thinking it is just not tilted enough to drain quickly.
No, I'm not out in the rain taking this picture, we have two sets of sliding glass doors on an L shaped portion of our house, so we can see across the deck into the ktichen. :)

Day 363 - December 29
Here's something you don't see everyday in the desert - a rain storm! (Unless you're us - then you see it fairly regularly because Christmas week appears to be rainy week around here.) It was really coming down. What is more interesting about this picture is that it was taken at 5 pm. Even with the storm, it was this light out! Once it started getting dark though, it was REALLY dark REALLY quickly. This is my parents' back yard ... quite the oasis. Someday we'll be there and be able to go swimming.

Day 335 - December 1
I have previously shared how quickly water can seep into my classroom. Today, it looked like this at 8:45 in the morning. It eventually made it past the wheels that you can see on the bottom of that cart. The worst part is knowing how much grossness must be under this carpet, considering the water comes in and makes the carpet "squishy" on such a regular basis. I often wonder if there is mold under there that makes me so sniffly every week. I don't have as many problems when we have a long weekend or vacation. Just something I'll always wonder, I guess...

Day 206 - July 25
This dark grey storm came swirling in about an hour ago and blew away the pretty white clouds and blue sky. But now it's almost 60 minutes later and there is still no rain!

Day 155 - June 4
We're having a bit of a cloudburst here. The massive amount of rain is best illustrated by our overflowing rain barrel, less than 10 minutes into the storm. Lots of thunder, lots of lightning, lots of rain. Unfortunately, we mis-calculated when it would get here and our dinner got stuck on the grill for the downpour. It's a little well done. :)
